Miami is famous for its beautiful beaches and warm climate, but did you know that the city also has a rich history of jazz music? In the 1940s and 1950s, Miami's Overtown neighborhood was a hub for jazz musicians, and the area was known as the "Harlem of the South." Legendary performers like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald all played at Overtown's famous nightclubs, such as the Mary Elizabeth Hotel and the Sir John Hotel. Today, Miami still celebrates its jazz heritage with events like the Overtown Music and Arts Festival.
